Hollie Strano fired from WKYC 9 months after her Thanksgiving OVI arrest

A local TV meteorologist who was arrested and charged with OVI last Thanksgiving has been fired by WKYC Studios.

Hollie Strano, who had been with WKYC Channel 3 News for more than 20 years, posted about her termination Monday morning.

“I am sad to share that after 22 plus years of dedicated work, WKYC and Tegna decided to terminate my employment after I shared my recovery journey publicly,” Strano stated. “I believe the actions of WKYC and Tegna demonstrate the stigma surrounding addiction that so many in our community experience every day.”

Strano pleaded guilty to one count of OVI, a first-degree misdemeanor, after she crashed her car on Akron-Peninsula Road. A Cuyahoga Falls police officer reported she had been going 70 mph in a 35 mph zone. Strano had a blood alcohol level of 0.244%, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08%. Since then, she had made posts about her recovery efforts.

A representative from Tegna, which operates WKYC and is headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, could not be reached for comment.

As well as serving as a meteorologist, she also was a host on WKYC’s “GO” morning show and a host on “It’s About You.”
