CONNEAUT, Ohio (WJW) — Even the lake-effect snow warning that was in effect on Friday night did not prepare experienced drivers in Ashtabula County for the conditions they faced on Interstate 90 between Ashtabula and Conneaut.
“The roads are horrible, everything is really bad. You know, people are stuck in the middle of the road in places. A lot of roads aren’t plowed or they were plowed and now they’re completely covered again,” Larry Dougherty of Ashtabula told FOX 8 News.

Snowfall may reach 2 feet in parts of Northeast Ohio
Krista Kohut of Conneaut told us, “The drive was very frightening because you had people passing you and I must have seen at least eight to nine cars in the ditches.”
Kohut said if you think you had a tough day, consider what she faced on Friday after driving to Cleveland for a doctor’s appointment.
“When I left Conneaut, there were 12 inches of snow. I went to Cleveland. On my way back, it took me about two hours and I’m still not home. It was horrific,” she said.

The Ohio Department of Transportation said they will be increasing the number of crews assigned to clearing the highways in Ashtabula County overnight from 18 to 25, in the hope that they can stay one step ahead of the heavy snowfall.

If the predicted snow totals are right, hearty Ashtabula County residents said it’s going to be a good couple of days to stay home in front of the fire and watch football.
“I have a pretty attitude about it. You know, it’s Northeast Ohio. This is stuff we’ve dealt with over the years and we’ll deal with it again,” said Dougherty with a smile.
