As of noon Saturday, 9,316 customers remained without electricity in Marion County in the wake of Hurricane Milton. Of those, 8,176 were Duke Energy customers. The rest were SECO (1,126), Clay Electric (12) and Ocala Electric (2).
In a news release, Duke said all Marion County customers should have service restored no later than 11:59 p.m. Sunday. The utility said it had more than 1 million outages statewide because of the storm and that number was down to 580,000 as of noon Saturday.
“It is important to note that customers who experienced extensive damage or flooding may require additional time for restoration and some should be prepared for extended outages. Updates will be communicated as soon as possible,” the release says.
SECO said more than 100,000 of its members lost power in the storm. That’s about 41% of all members. As of noon Saturday, service had been restored to almost 80,000 members. The cooperative has members in Marion, Lake, Sumter, Citrus, Hernando, Levy and Pasco counties.
“Restoration is expected to last through the weekend and possibly early next week,” SECO wrote on its website Saturday. “Crews have been continuing post-restoration efforts around the clock since early Thursday morning. SECO Energy has 300 additional crews joining the cooperative today as they were released from storm restoration in the Carolinas.”
SECO also noted: “SECO Energy is asking members for patience in the extensive effort to bring all meters back online due to the extensive and widespread damage. Restoration and recovery in some communities is a long process due to the substantial number of outages caused by downed lines, broken poles, flooding, fallen trees, and other damage curtailing restoration work.”
