After a mild start to fall, Erie, Pennsylvania, got its first major snowstorm of the season over the holiday weekend, blanketing the region with significant snowfall.
On Black Friday, Erie International Airport recorded 22.6 inches of new snow, breaking the city’s previous one-day snowfall record of 21.8 inches set on December 26, 2017.
The National Weather Service extended a lake-effect snow warning for Erie County until Tuesday, Dec. 3, with an additional 42 inches of snow possible.

The heavy snowfall led to a local disaster emergency declaration by Erie County officials, a snow emergency in the city of Erie and travel restrictions on parts of Interstates 79, 90, and 86.
