How to stay safe on cycling tour & a few must-have apps

I’ve used the same bike technology since I started cycling touring in 2010. My trusty, if somewhat battered iPhone 3GS, is still hanging on and running iBike for all its worth and I’m still using the same Garmin Edge 305 to record all my riding data.
App: Touring Pro. A cycle route planning app, including most National Cycle Network (NCN) routes in the UK, plus some other key main routes in Europe. It can be used for route planning and tracking rides. I’m also adding some more apps that are free and will come in handy on a Cycling tour.

List of Apps that a Cycle tourist must have

Google Maps:

Google Maps offers a variety of features that are especially useful for travelers. These features include transport infrastructure mapping, bicycle-friendly routing, and the ability to download maps for offline use. Google Maps is a widely used app for navigation and good reason. Google Maps is a widely used app for navigation and for a good reason. In many places, it offers bicycle-friendly routing alongside directions for cars, However, its offline functionality is limited. It cannot cache the terrain view, which makes it difficult or impossible to estimate a route’s elevation profile if you don’t have a data connection. Pair Google Maps with Street View if you want to explore places in VR before you get there. I only use this if I’m heading for a specific spot in a city, such as a Warmshowers host’s house, and want to visualize the location in advance.

Cyclemeter GPS:

Cyclemeter is a GPS cycling app that tracks your ride and provides you with all the information you need to improve your cycling. It has been designed to be easy to use, but also provide all the information you need to improve your cycling. It is the most advanced mobile application for cyclist lovers. It is packed with features that allow cyclists to track their rides, including route mapping, distance, speed, elevation, and calories burned. Cyclemeter also allows cyclists to keep track of their progress over time, and to share their rides with friends and family. Cyclemeter GPS is capable of recording cycling, running, walking, and hiking activities without any problem.

Track my Tour:

This is an app that I have used for years to help me plan and track my bicycle tours. It is simple to use and has a lot of great features that make it my go-to app for this purpose. This mobile app works on both iOS and Android devices that keep your friends, family, and your loved ones keep updated about your ‘Bicycle Tour’ progress.

Maps Me is one of the best Google Maps alternatives available, and it’s easy to see why. The app is specifically focused on filling the gaps left by Google in terms of offline mapping and routing. One of Maps. Me’s key feature is its focus on open data. All of the app’s main functionality will work offline, including bicycle-optimized routing. On my 2016 trip to Kashmir Valley, I used this feature daily and cross-referenced it with Google’s walking directions to plan most of my riding. However, the app does have some flaws. One of these flaws is that the map does not display any topographical data. Another flaw is that the app is dependent on the OpenStreetMap database, which can result in coverage issues in less-visited regions. Despite these flaws, I still recommend the app because of its great offline functionality and bicycle-optimized routing.

Komoot is one of the most powerful routing apps of any on this list. Komoot is one of the most powerful routing apps of any on this list. Komoot uses OpenStreetMap data to calculate an optimal route for road cycling, touring, or mountain biking. This makes komoot ideal for road cycling, touring, or mountain biking. Komoot also has some nice social features which encourage users to record and share their discoveries. For example, highlights of a route can be submitted and if they are rated highly by the community, they will show up on future route plans. I’ve been using komoot for a while now and I love it! It has some of the best routing algorithms of any of the apps on this list.

How to make your trip safe & secure?

With the warmer weather comes the urge to get outside and explore. For many, that means dusting off the bike and hitting the open road. Cycling tours are a great way to see new places, but it’s important to be aware of the potential dangers. This article will give you some tips on how to stay safe while cycling.

Utilize bright colors when cycling:

Wearing bright colors when cycling is a great way to stay safe on your tour. Drivers will be able to see you more easily, and you’ll be less likely to get hit by a car. If you’re touring in a group, ensure that everyone is wearing bright colors so that you’re all visible to drivers.

Invest in a good quality helmet:

When it comes to safety on a cycling tour, one of the most important pieces of equipment you can invest in is a good quality helmet. A helmet can protect your head from serious injury in the event of a fall or collision and can help to keep you safe on the road.
There are many different types and styles of helmets available on the market, so it is important to do some research to find one that is right for you. Make sure that the helmet fits snugly and comfortably on your head, and that it has been properly certified by an independent testing laboratory. When in doubt, always err on the side of caution and choose a higher-quality helmet over a cheaper one.

In addition to a helmet, there are other safety gear items that can help to keep you safe on a cycling tour. These include reflective clothing and lights, which can help you to be seen more easily by motorists in low-light conditions. Another helpful safety item is a mirror, which can allow you to see approaching traffic from behind. By taking some simple precautions, you can help to ensure that your cycling tour is enjoyable and safe.

Be aware of your surroundings:

When cycling, it’s important to be aware of your surroundings at all times. This means paying attention to the traffic around you, as well as any potential obstacles in your path. If you’re riding in an unfamiliar area, take some time to familiarize yourself with the route before setting out. And always be sure to wear proper safety gear, including a helmet, reflective clothing, and lights if riding at night. By following these simple safety tips, you can help ensure a fun and enjoyable cycling tour.

Follow the rules of the road:

When it comes to cycling tours, following the rules of the road is the best way to stay safe. This means riding on the right side of the road, obeying all traffic signs and signals, and using appropriate hand signals when turning or stopping. Additionally, always yield to pedestrians and be cautious when passing other cyclists. By following the rules of the road, you can help ensure a safe and enjoyable cycling tour for everyone involved.

Use hand signals:

If you’re going on a cycling tour, it’s important to know how to stay safe. One of the most important things you can do is to use hand signals. This will let other cyclists and drivers know what you’re doing and where you’re going. It’s also a good idea to wear bright clothing so that you’re more visible. And, of course, always wear a helmet!

Be cautious when passing vehicles:

When you’re out on a cycling tour, it’s important to be aware of your surroundings at all times. This means being especially cautious when passing vehicles. Make sure you give yourself plenty of space when passing, and always be prepared to stop if necessary. If a driver doesn’t see you, don’t assume they’ll yield to you – always err on the side of caution. Stay safe out there!

Ride in single file when with a group:

When you are out on a cycling tour with a group, make sure to ride in a single file. This will help you stay safe as well as stay aware of what is going on around you.

With a little bit of preparation and knowledge, you can easily stay safe on your next cycling tour. By following the tips in this article, you’ll be able to avoid potential hazards and enjoy a worry-free ride. So before you hit the road, make sure you know how to stay safe on your bike.
