Phoenix police said human remains were found at South Mountain on Saturday by a hiker who went off trail.
Around 10 a.m., a South Mountain Park Ranger notified police that a hiker who went off Las Lomitas Trail, near the northcentral area of the park, and found what appeared to be human remains, according to Sgt. Phil Krynsky.
Officers arrived on scene and confirmed the remains were human, according to Krynsky.
Phoenix detectives were on scene processing the evidence that would be transferred to the Office of the Medical Examiner to determine a cause of death, according to Krynsky.
On Saturday morning, a TikTok user with the username @tattooed_traveler shared a video featuring a woman claiming to be the hiker who discovered the remains.
The unidentified woman was seen recounting that police made her return to the scene to help Park Rangers locate the remains, which she said consisted of a skull and other bones.
On Saturday evening, the user made their account private despite The Republic’s attempt to contact them.
