Cromwell and Lewis were in a relationship, according to the woman making the call. Lewis died from her injuries at the hospital.

Cromwell arrived at the hospital roughly two hours after Lewis had been admitted. According to the affidavit, Cromwell provided differing accounts of what had happened that didn’t appear to be consistent with the victim’s injuries.

A witness came forward the following day and told a Van Zandt County constable that he had watched the incident on a security camera from a nearby RV. In the affidavit, the witness said he saw Cromwell beat Lewis and then Cromwell reversed the car and backed over her as she stood next to the passenger door. Cromwell then put Lewis in the car and drove away.

Cromwell’s bond has been set at $500,000 bond. He has a an arrest record spanning from 1998 to 2018 in Hunt County for charges ranging from multiple DWIs to theft of property to violating a protective order.
