The wife of Huw Edwards has filed for divorce after the former BBC News anchor admitted accessing indecent images of children.
Edwards was found guilty last month of paying Alex Williams, a convicted paedophile, up to £1,500 after receiving images of child sex abuse and asking for pictures despite being told those pictured looked young.
The former BBC newsreader was sentenced to six months imprisonment, suspended for two years, at Westminster magistrates’ court.
Edwards, 63, was also ordered to undertake a sex offender treatment programme, undergo a rehabilitation activity requirement order and sign the sex offenders’ register for seven years.
It has now emerged that Vicky Flind, the mother of five of Edwards’ children, has launched proceedings to end their 30-year marriage.
Edwards reportedly split with Flind, a TV producer, earlier this year and moved out of their family home.
A source told The Sun: “Vicky had enough of Edwards a long time ago, but this is the final nail in the coffin of their relationship.
“He’s put her and their family through hell, so this was inevitable. Unsurprisingly, they separated a long time ago and Edwards has been living elsewhere, but it is now official. Vicky is not talking to him and they now only communicate via lawyers.”
The couple’s six-bedroom home in Dulwich, south London, has recently been put on the market for £4.75 million.
Edwards left the BBC last year and had been on conditional bail after he admitted possessing 41 indecent images, seven of which were category A, the most serious.
He was the face of the corporation’s coverage of major national events for decades, and announced the late Queen’s death in September 2022.
Edwards has yet to return the £200,000 he was paid by the BBC between being arrested in November last year and resigning in April.
In August, the BBC’s board announced that it would attempt to recover the money.
