A Renton man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his 62-year-old mother, according to court documents filed by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Sean Preston Lowe, 34, is accused of intentionally causing the death of Leda Louise Files Tuesady.
According to court documents, Renton Police responded to Files’ apartment at 417 Williams Avenue South on January 21 after Lowe called 911, stating his mother was dead.

The call, which came in around 2:08 a.m., was preceded by a call to a crematorium, where Lowe left a message.
When officers arrived, they found Lowe outside the apartment, scrolling on his phone. Lowe was reportedly “rambling” and said something about having a seizure and then finding his mother dead when he woke up.
Lowe was also seen looking at the Washington State Patrol website while officers approached, according to police.
He then tensed up and began kicking his feet and legs as officers attempted to detain him.
Inside the apartment, officers found Files face down between the wall and the bed. She was still warm but had no pulse.

Responding fire personnel rolled her over and noted that her face was purple and she appeared to have lividity, a discoloration of the skin that appears after death. They also noted distinct marks on her neck, consistent with strangulation, and that she was bleeding from her nose and mouth.
An autopsy conducted Wednesday revealed Files had a broken hyoid bone, broken ribs, and a broken sternum. The medical examiner determined her death was a homicide caused by smothering and manual strangulation.
After being transported to the Renton Police Department, Lowe initially requested an attorney.
Later at Valley Medical Center while undergoing a toxicology exam, Lowe reportedly told detectives, “I killed my mother.”

Investigators also discovered a video on Lowe’s phone that was filmed the evening before Files’ death. The video, about 15 minutes and 40 seconds long, shows Files sitting on her bed, and an individual believed to be Lowe can be heard talking to her. In the video, Files repeatedly tells Lowe to leave her alone, and Lowe tells Files that he knows when she’s going to die, stating her death is “imminent.” He also calls himself “god,” says she is going to hell, and that there are demons around. At one point in the video, Files says, “I am being held hostage in my own home.”
Lowe is also seen in the same clothing he was wearing when arrested.
According to the court documents, officers found a glass pipe and other drug paraphernalia at the scene. Lowe has a history of arrests for narcotics possession in Wyoming and a 2016 conviction for assaulting a police officer.
Prosecutors have requested Lowe be held on $5 million bail, citing concerns that he is a risk to the community and likely to flee.
