Iconic Ocean City, Maryland, Boardwalk establishment Alaska Stand has announced its imminent closure.
The small business, which has captured the hearts of countless local residents and seasonal visitors since 1933, confirmed it will not reopen for the 2025 summer season at its beloved 9th Street location.
Yet, as one door closes, another opens. Now, 9th Street is set to welcome a new face in the coming months: Thrasher’s French Fries, another staple Ocean City business wielding historic Boardwalk fame.

Over time, fast-food fixture Alaska Stand has become a top destination for fresh burgers, split hotdogs, fries, funnel cakes, ice cream, shakes and more.
Together, current owners Jodi and Dennis Renner followed in the footsteps of Jodi’s great-grandfather, Benjamin Givarz, who opened the original Alaska Stand location — no longer in operation — at the intersection of Wicomico Street and the Boardwalk in 1933. The business’s 9th Street location opened in 1968.
