Instant Product Review: 2023-24 Upper Deck Credentials Hockey Takes Major Step Forward

The NHL may be in the offseason, but that has not slowed Upper Deck from releasing hockey products rapidly. Upper Deck 2023-24 Credentials Hockey is the third release in less than a month (Allure Hockey July 24 and SPx Hockey Aug. 7).

It has been an expensive month for collectors and Connor Bedard chasers.

Credentials Hockey is known for their Debut Tickets, more on that later.

A new insert sure to grab attention is the “Day With The Pup.” It is a die-cut card with the edges referencing a dog bone. It is an incredibly creative card and a fun play on the “Day With The Cup” cards commonly found in Flagship products.

Okay, back to the tickets. All the major rookies have a variety of Debut Tickets. Many come in vertical and horizontal form. They can be autographed and come in acetate form.

Veterans are featured on a variety of Tickets. With total print run of 80, The Retro Ticket Access Autos are extremely difficult to hit. Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews are the only veterans featured on the Retro Ticket Access Autos.

The Pro Vision inserts are highly extremely rare (1:200 packs). There are 10 players featured on the Pro Vision inserts including Connor Bedard (1:2,000 packs).

Initial Reaction

Credentials Hockey was never in anybody’s top 10 of sets to collect over the last three years. It has been a nice box to purchase in the $60-$80 USD range to have some fun with.

The expectations of hitting a high valued card are not there. But Credentials Hockey has a high enough floor to keep collectors coming back.

Will Upper Deck 2023-24 Credentials crack anyone’s top-five? Probably not. But it has gone from a set no one really talks about to the “honorable mention” category.

That may change.

Resale value is what will determine how strong of a set Upper Deck 2023-24 Credentials Hockey will be. We know Connor Bedard’s hits will bring a nice return.

Will Luke Hughes, Matthew Knies, Logan Cooley cards bring enough of a return to keep collectors wanting to buy more? Time will tell.

For now, the initial reaction to Upper Deck 2023-24 Credentials Hockey is favorable. The redesign of the set was much needed. The new inserts are fun. The rookie class is strong enough, even without Bedard, for collectors to chase Debut Tickets.

Happy hunting and collecting!
