Interim Chief Financial Officer of Anaergia Picks Up 102% More Stock

Whilst it may not be a huge deal, we thought it was good to see that the Anaergia Inc. (TSE:ANRG) Interim Chief Financial Officer, Gregory Wolf, recently bought CA$88k worth of stock, for CA$0.65 per share. Even though that isn’t a massive buy, it did increase their holding by 102%, which is arguably a good sign.

The Independent Director Ronen Kantor made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for CA$980k worth of shares at a price of CA$0.40 each. Although we like to see insider buying, we note that this large purchase was at significantly below the recent price of CA$0.92. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn’t tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.

In the last twelve months Anaergia insiders were buying shares, but not selling. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Anaergia is not the only stock that insiders are buying. For those who like to find small cap companies at attractive valuations, this free list of growing companies with recent insider purchasing, could be just the ticket.

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Insiders own 26% of Anaergia shares, worth about CA$42m. We’ve certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

It’s certainly positive to see the recent insider purchases. And an analysis of the transactions over the last year also gives us confidence. However, we note that the company didn’t make a profit over the last twelve months, which makes us cautious. When combined with notable insider ownership, these factors suggest Anaergia insiders are well aligned, and that they may think the share price is too low. So while it’s helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it’s also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing. At Simply Wall St, we’ve found that Anaergia has 5 warning signs (3 shouldn’t be ignored!) that deserve your attention before going any further with your analysis.
