2024 is coming to a close and many Wisconsinites are preparing to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

Even though New Year’s Eve is celebrated by many with parties, firework displays and more, the day is actually is not a federal holiday, similar to Christmas Eve.

Here’s what to know:

Is New Year’s Day a federal holiday?

Yes. According to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, New Year’s Day is a federal holiday.

What are the federal holidays in 2025?

There are typically only 11 federal holidays, but Inauguration Day is included for 2025. However, it is only a holiday for federal employees in Washington, D.C., and certain federal offices.

Inauguration Day, which is slated for Jan. 20, is not part of the regular 11 federal holidays. Whether you get the day off depends on your employer or organization.
