Israel hopeful of Gaza agreement on Wednesday evening

The Israeli government has said it hopes to resolve final issues on an agreement with the Palestinian Islamist Hamas movement for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday evening.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that last-minute demands from Hamas had been rejected by him.

“There are still several unresolved clauses in the outline, and we hope that the details will be finalized tonight,” the prime minister’s office said in statement.

Several Israeli media outlets had earlier reported that both sides had agreed to a ceasefire and the release of hostages in return for Palestinian prisoners.

Official confirmation was expected in the coming hours, it was reported.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry, which has been working as a mediator for months, said it would report on the negotiations in a press conference.

The Foreign Ministry posted a link to a live broadcast on the platform X on Wednesday evening. The ministry did not specify a time.
