Israel says it downed another missile fired from Yemen

Israel’s air defence intercepted a missile fired from Yemen early on Saturday, according to the military.

The missile was shot down before it could reach Israeli territory, the military said on Telegram.

Warning sirens sounded in dozens of cities across the country, including the Jerusalem area and the Dead Sea.

On Friday, airstrikes targeted military facilities of the pro-Iranian Houthi militia in Yemen.

The Houthi-affiliated television channel al-Masirah reported that a US-British “aggression” had targeted a park in the Ma’een district west of Sana’a. There was no confirmation from the US or Britain.

Israeli military sources said that their air force was not involved.

On Thursday, Israeli fighter jets conducted a series of strikes in Yemen including on the international airport in Sana’a and power stations.

Since the onset of the Gaza war more than a year ago, Yemen’s Houthis have targeted Israel with missile and drone attacks.

The Houthis are allied with Israel’s arch-enemy Iran, like Hamas in the Gaza Strip and the Lebanese Hezbollah militia.
