It List: ‘Nosferatu’ haunts the holidays, ‘Squid Game’ brings the action, ‘A Complete Unknown’ tells Bob Dylan’s origin story

Hello, friends! I’m Kelsey, your guide to all things pop culture for Yahoo Entertainment, and this is the It List, our weekly rundown of what’s new and notable. In it, I recommended a slew of upcoming releases to watch, stream, listen to, read and binge. I’ll walk you through my favorites.

What to watch

🎥 Nosferatu makes Christmas creepy

  • When: Nosferatu is now playing in theaters.

  • What to know: Lily-Rose Depp stars as a newlywed haunted by a vampire, played chillingly by Bill Skarsgård. Director Robert Eggers told me that, although it might seem like the story has been remade countless times, this is the first version in which a woman is at the center. • Why I recommend it: Come for the spooky winter vibes, stay for Willem Dafoe having the time of his life sharing scenes with thousands of rats. [Yahoo Entertainment]

🎥 A Complete Unknown reintroduces Bob Dylan

  • When: A Complete Unknown is now playing in theaters.

  • What to know: The film charts the rise of the legendary singer as he skyrockets to fame and changes the course of American music along the way. [Rolling Stone]

  • Why I recommend it: Timothée Chalamet didn’t know much about Dylan when he signed on to play him, but spent several years getting into the role. He told me his “greatest hope” for the film is that younger generations discover Dylan’s music. [People/Yahoo Entertainment]

🎥 Babygirl turns up the heat

  • When: Babygirl is now playing in theaters.

  • What to know: A high-powered CEO (Nicole Kidman) has an affair with a young intern (Harris Dickinson), calling into question the balance of desire and power dynamics. [Variety]

  • Why I recommend it: Dickinson told my colleague Taryn Ryder exactly what he did to preserve his onscreen chemistry with Kidman, and … well, this is definitely a Christmas movie, but not one I’d take the whole family to see! [Yahoo Entertainment/The Hollywood Reporter]

📺 Nate Bargatze lightens the mood

  • When: Your Friend, Nate Bargatze is now streaming on Netflix.

  • What to know: The “nicest man in stand-up” jokes about having a more responsible wife and speaking at his daughter’s career day in this new special, which is not to be confused with his other new special from last week. [USA Today/The Wrap]

  • Why I’ll be watching: Bargatze is on a roll lately, from providing commentary on NFL Christmas Gameday to hosting Saturday Night Live. His PG-rated comedy has put him in high demand, so I recommend checking him out before he takes over the world. [The Hollywood Reporter]

What to binge

▶️ Squid Game returns with a vengeance

  • When: Squid Game Season 2 is now streaming on Netflix.

  • What to know: Seong Gi-hun emerged from the high-stakes competition triumphant over hundreds of others. After an encounter at a train station, he decides he needs to do whatever it takes to put an end to the games for good. [People]

  • Why I’ll be watching: Catching up on what happened last season reminded me of just how much of a sensation this series was when it premiered. Plus, it’ll be a perfect post-holiday binge. [Los Angeles Times]
