Italian Authorities Return Stolen Gandhāra Artifacts to Pakistan in Official Ceremony

Milan (International Desk) – Global Times News Agency Europe
An official ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Guardia di Finanza in Milan to commemorate the restoration and restitution of valuable archaeological artifacts to Pakistan.

The event marked the return of seven cultural relics originating from the ancient Gandhāra civilization, renowned for its unique fusion of Greco-Buddhist art. These artifacts, which hold immense historical and artistic significance, had been unlawfully removed and were successfully recovered through the coordinated efforts of Italian authorities.

Acting on the instructions of the Embassy of Pakistan in Rome, Consul General Aqsa Nawaz officially received the restored artifacts from Italian officials. She expressed deep appreciation for the efforts of all Italian agencies involved, particularly praising the Guardia di Finanza and the Carabinieri for their commitment and exemplary cooperation in tracing and recovering the stolen items.

During the ceremony, Captain Francesco Giglio of the Guardia di Finanza elaborated on the operation that led to the seizure. He emphasized that the entire endeavor was carried out with the sole objective of returning the cultural heritage to its rightful home.

The recovered items are expected to be repatriated to Pakistan soon, where they will be preserved as part of the nation’s rich cultural legacy.
