***THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM THE ITVX EPISODE OF EMMERDALE***
Sophie Powles has temporally returned to Emmerdale as Holly Barton amid a new storyline with on-screen mum Moira Dingle.
Moira (Natalie J Robb) undergoes brain surgery amid her health battles during Wednesday’s (November 20) episode, which is available to watch on ITVX, leading to a shock return for her late daughter Holly.
Fans of the show will remember Holly died in late 2016 after a fatal drug relapse. The character – played by Sophie – had battled with her addiction for years, and died in 2016, just six months after she returned to the soap.
Sophie returned to film heartbreaking scenes as Holly returned to Moira’s dream as she underwent her life-saving operation.
Sophie has been in and out of the soap since 2009 but made her final appearance in 2016 until now. As well as being an actress, Sophie is also a mum and only recently reunited with her Emmerdale family for a weekend away.

Other stars including Emma Atkins (Charity Dingle), Zoe Henry (Rhona Ghoskirk) and Jeff Hordley (Cain Dingle) were also seen in the snaps, as well as the group dressed in 80s gear to mark the occasion.
Away from the ITV soap, Sophie is appeared in The Long Shadow, Britaania High, Holby City and Dalziel and Pascoe.
Opening up about the brain surgery storyline, actress Natalie J Robb, who plays Moira, warned: “There could be some slight personality change, it could be that she just faces things differently because sheâs been faced with such an ordeal.
“She chooses to deal with things maybe a bit differently because life is so precious and it was nearly taken away from her. I think if anyone loses a loved one or a dog, which I did in February, the grief was overwhelming and it really makes you go ‘Right, youâve got to really appreciate every day as you live it.'”
Natalie admitted the filming was “emotionally exhausting” for her. Emotionally it was exhausting because of the journey of it, feeling the fear of it, going through some of the earlier scenes between Cain and Moira which were lovely where she is really scared, there was a lot of scenes because we shoot a lot of things together,” she said.
“We did a lot of the emotional stuff in one or two days so youâre aagh after that. But it is exhausting but itâs also rewarding when you see it go out and you know that youâve done a good job, thatâs the main thing.”
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX
