ITV I’m A Celebrity viewers ‘tired’ as Coleen Rooney joke backfires amid latecomer prediction

Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly wasted no time in making a joke at Coleen Rooney’s expense – but it backfired amongst I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here viewers. The TV personality and WAG was among the 10 famous faces seen entering the jungle as the ITV reality show returned.

Coleen was seen during the opening episode of the 2024 series on Sunday night (November 17) meeting some of her fellow campmates before they paired up and faced a challenge in a bid to become the first camp leaders.

Among those joining the 38-year-old in I’m A Celeb this year are Dancing On Ice judge and former Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse, N-Dubz singer Tulisa Contostavlos, Loose Women’s Jane Moore and McFly star Danny Jones.

But the launch show of the latest series saw Ant and Dec making jokes about Coleen’s high-profile libel trial with Rebekah Vardy. Liverpool-born Coleen has followed fellow WAG Rebekah, who competed in the 17th series of the reality TV show in 2017, into the Australian jungle.

Not wasting any time in bringing up the recent headlines surrounding the star, at the beginning of the episode, Dec said: “It will be nice for Coleen to face a trial that doesn’t involve Rebekah Vardy.”

She was dubbed ‘Wagatha Christie’ when she accused Norwich-born Vardy, who is married to Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, of leaking her private information to The Sun in a viral post on social media. In July 2022, a judge at the High Court found the post was “substantially true”.

But the joke didn’t go down well with everyone watching @TVqueertiques said: “First mention of Rebekah Vardy… how many we expecting this series?!” @exilesmtr commented: “Omg 3 minutes in and we’ve already heard a Rebekah Vardy joke.. i’m tired.” @Alexgmanutd98 noted: “Straight off the bat with the Wagatha Christie & Rebekah Vardy trial joke. @antanddec wasting no time #ImACeleb.” @LFC_2115 added: “Not even 5 minutes in and they’ve already made a trial joke #ImACeleb.”

Others, however, have pondered whether I’m A Celeb bosses will drop Rebekah in as a latecomer into the series, despite her own previous stint in the jungle.@IndyLeft23 said: “Just wait until Rebekah Vardy parachutes in on day 7. #ImACeleb.” @Chris26171939 commented: “Rebekah Vardy to join later presumably #ImACeleb.” @SnoozeActive added: “Surely they’ll airdrop Rebekah Vardy in at some point. #imaceleb.”

It comes after Rebekah revealed she’ll be a keen viewers of the series. She told The Sun: “Absolutely, we’ll be watching avidly. Everyone seems to think I have this massive problem with Coleen going into the jungle. But do you know what? If you want to fan the fire, the flames are going to get higher. I wasn’t going to carry on talking about this. I had no intention of talking about it, but she clearly can’t let it go.”
