ITV The Masked Singer viewers say 'it all makes sense' as Spag

Fans tuned into The Masked Singer on Sunday (January 5) to catch the first reveal of the new series, and were left saying ‘it all makes sense’. The ITV singing contest returned with 12 new characters on Saturday (January 4), with six of them performing for the first time.

Taking to the stage under their elaborate costumes were Teeth, Snail, Tattoo, Kingfisher, Spaghetti Bolognese and Dressed Crab, with a host of mysterious famous faces hidden underneath.

After each of their performances, it was Spag Bol and Teeth who received the fewest votes and found themselves in the bottom two. The judging panel, made up of Jonathan Ross, Mo Gillian, Davina McCall and Maya Jama, who has joined the show for the first time to replace Rita Ora, as well as guest judge Mo Farah, chose to save Teeth.

However, a twist at the end of Saturday’s episode saw host Joel Dommett announce that Spag Bol’s identity wouldn’t be revealed there and then as per usual, and that viewers would have to wait until Sunday.

At the start of Sunday’s show, Spag Bol returned to the stage and was forced to remove their mask and reveal their identity. Ahead of the big reveal, the panel made guesses including Ruby Wax, Julia Bradbury, Emma Raducanu, Judy Murray and Anita Rani.

But they were all wrong, as it was in fact Good Morning Britain presenter, Kate Garraway, who was hiding behind the Spag Bol costume.

Davina was left stunned as she told the panel: “I only saw her last week, and not a whisper.” As the panel commended her performance, Kate then went on to say: “I can’t sing and I kept telling them that, but they said it doesn’t matter.”

The ITV host then revealed that she had even kept her appearance on the show a secret from her kids, as she said: “They did hear me practising singing and I said its for charity, and they said I hope you make a lot of money.”

Despite the panel’s lack of knowledge that it was the journalist hidden behind the mask, some viewers at home had sussed it out prior to the reveal.

Taking to X, one viewer @blissfulfiction said: “I got the first one right! Hoping it’s a good omen for the rest of the series #MaskedSingerUK,” as @chelseasandrax wrote: “I knew it was kate garraway!!! #MaskedSingerUK.”

@slinehan1 wrote: “I GOT ONE RIGHT!! I knew it was Kate!! #MaskedSingerUK,” as @MrG48 said: “I said Kate Garraway in family group chat last night #MaskedSingerUK.”

Others said that the clues now made ‘so much sense’,” as @xSuzyJS79x wrote: “Kate Garraway makes so much sense now that she’s been revealed. #TheMaskedSingerUK,” and @sammi_heartbeat agreed: “All the clues make sense now!! #MaskedSingerUK.”
