Jamestown man arrested after shots fired into vehicle early Wednesday

Sep. 11—JAMESTOWN — A Jamestown man was arrested after shots were fired into a vehicle early Wednesday, Sept. 11, according to Maj. Justin Blinsky, assistant chief of police for the Jamestown Police Department.

Mikah Alan Striefel, 22, was arrested on suspicion of felony reckless endangerment, felony criminal mischief and unlawful discharge of a firearm in city limits.

Blinksky said in a news release that at about 1:03 a.m. Wednesday, an off-duty Jamestown police officer reported hearing gunshots in a southeast Jamestown neighborhood. Additional reports of the incident were called in shortly after the shots were fired and officers responded to the area, he said.

Upon arrival, officers located a parked unoccupied vehicle in the 1400 block of 6th Avenue Southeast with bullet holes in it. The vehicle was identified as a late model Buick SUV and officers discovered multiple rounds of ammunition had been fired into the vehicle. A search of the area showed there were no other vehicles shot, Blinsky said. Surrounding homes to where the targeted vehicle was parked were occupied at the time of the shooting. No one was injured during the shooting, he said.

Further investigation and evidence collection established a suspect and suspect vehicle, Binsky said.

Jamestown police enlisted the assistance of the Valley City Police Department and Barnes County Sheriff’s Office to try and locate Striefel’s whereabouts. Striefel has ties to the Valley City area, Blinsky said.

Just before 9 a.m., Jamestown police located Striefel and detained him for questioning. Search warrants were conducted to assist locating additional evidence to this crime.

Striefel was taken to the Stutsman County Correctional Center to await formal charges, Blinsky said.
