Jeremy Clarkson criticised over price of steak and ‘half a carrot’ in his pub

Jeremy Clarkson has received a backlash over the price of steak in his pub.

The Grand Tour star, 64, opened The Farmer’s Dog pub in August following the success of his Diddly Squat farm and shop.

While business appears to be booming, many have raised questions over some of his prices, with merch costing up to £60, while pints will set you back £5.50.

Clarkson recently defended himself against charging £15 for a vegetable and cheddar crumble and £19 for a Lancashire hotpot.

He found himself in the firing line again after the pub’s Instagram page shared a picture of their latest offering which included steak and “half a carrot”.

“Thanks Chef! Here’s a special for you.. Diddly Squat reared fillet steak with fresh carrots, mash and local black cabbage all for £28 pounds…,” the accompanying caption read.

‘How much!!!!?? Wouldn’t pay half that,” wrote one person.

“That’s some mark up,” agreed another.

“Where is the rest of it?” questioned a third.

“For those sating its a good value- half a carrot, a potato and a green leaf costs probably about 50p max. The steak is home raised, much cheaper than if ordered in. The cost of this dish is about £4-5max, the rest is business costs (a few quid) and profit,” added a fourth.

Not everyone had it in for Clarkson though, with some arguing his case.

“Why the issue with £28? That’s about the going rate for a Fillet Steak in any restaurant,” pointed out one person.

“For all those questioning the price a pub near us are selling local fillet steak at £45/portion! £28 looks a bargain!” agreed another.

The Standard has contacted a representative for Jeremy Clarkson for comment.
