Jermaine Jenas’ wife makes decision as ‘multiple women’ make claims against him

Jermaine Jenas’ wife is reportedly “standing by him” after multiple allegations of “inappropriate behaviour” were levelled against the sacked TV presenter.

The former England footballer, known for his roles as a pundit on Match of the Day and presenter of The One Show, was dismissed by the BBC on Thursday after concerns were raised about his workplace conduct.

The broadcaster is said to have received a complaint about text messages sent by Jenas last month, prompting an internal investigation to be launched. Reports suggest that after one woman complained about receiving unsolicited messages, other female staff members also came forward.

It is understood that Jenas has informed his wife of 13 years, Ellie Penfold, about the accusations, with sources suggesting the former model is sticking by him.

In an interview with talkSPORT on Thursday evening, Jenas said he was “not happy” about the BBC’s decision, adding: “Right now I can’t talk about it. There are two sides to every story and I’m going to be speaking with my lawyers on the issue.”

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United player branched outside of football in 2020 when he began co-hosting The One Show. He assumed a permanent presenting position the following year with his last appearance coming on July 22 as he hosted the programme alongside Alex Jones.

Jenas – who was revealed to earn a salary of £190,000 for his work on the BBC last year – was last seen on the Match of the Day panel on May 4, but worked as a pundit and commentator during the Euros. His last broadcast was the commentary for Spain’s semi-final win against France on July 9.
