Speaking to the crowd, the comic began: “I did want to say something: Over the past few months, many people have reached out in a very nice way about my wife Olivia, who’s been battling breast cancer. I really appreciate all the nice messages that obviously she has received and that even I have received.”
“But it’s been a real thing to be with someone you love so much going through this,” he went on. “In the past couple years, Olivia has had five surgeries, months and months of cancer treatment, and the fight that she’s put up has made her so inspiring.”
John went on to share two pretty NSFW stories as an example of this, starting by recalling how Olivia’s words suddenly failed her when they were having a consultation about their second baby’s conception.
“John: ‘Baby, baby, it’s semen,'” John went on. “Doctor: 'Guys, it’s sperm.’”
“You don’t hear that word thrown around in polite conversation,” John joked, before launching into his second anecdote from when he and Olivia were in a bookstore together.
“Granted, I did the first dumb thing in this story,” John admitted. “I was buying a book and Olivia was with me, and the woman behind the counter said: ‘Do you want me to put the receipt in the bag?’ And I said: ‘No, you can just put it in the bag,’ sort of classically dumb. Then I said: ‘I’m sorry, we’re just so exhausted,’ and the woman said: ‘I’ve been there!’”
“What is the point of that story?" John then wondered aloud, before telling the crowd: "Donate to cancer research!"
