Johnston County deputies searching for road rager who shot into car with mother, kids

Johnston County deputies are searching for a person who shot into a car with a woman and her children on Friday afternoon, news media outlets report.

The woman and her children, who have not been identified, were unharmed during the incident, according to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office. Her car was not hit by any bullets.

Deputies said a person in an SUV opened fire on Interstate 40 between Clayton Bypass and N.C. Highway 210 in Johnston County, according to ABC11, The News & Observer’s news gathering partner. They are calling the matter a road rage incident.

A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said have no leads on the suspect but said the woman called police around 4 p.m. and that the SUV the suspect was driving may have been black.

The State Highway Patrol is assisting the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation, according to WRAL.

NC State student arrested for car shootings

The Johnston County incident happened after a weeklong string of shootings into cars driving on Interstate 40.

On Friday, a 23-year-old student was arrested by Raleigh Police after 12 cars and homes were shot during rush hour on Interstate 40 near the Chapel Hill Road exit.

Andrew Thomas Graney of Kentford Court was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury and discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle.

Police said eight cars and four homes were shot into between Monday and Thursday. Along with Graney, a second unidentified person was arrested and released without charges.

No one was injured during the shootings but cars and homes were struck.
