Jury selection started Monday in the case of Calvin Crew, the man accused in the brutal murder of his Uber driver.
Crew, dressed in a blue shirt with his hair pulled back, sat between his attorneys as potential jurors were interviewed by both sides.
According to prosecutors, the 25-year-old shot and killed Christina Spicuzza in February of 2022, after she picked him up for Uber. Disturbing dash cam video obtained by police shows Spicuzza, a mom of four, pleading for her life. Investigators say Crew had been attempting to rob her, stealing her phone in order to access financial accounts.

Despite the heinous allegations he faces, Crew appeared relaxed and engaged in the jury selection process.
Candidates can no longer expect to be asked about their positions on the death penalty, as prosecutors recently withdrew their intention to seek capital punishment.

Our crew in the courtroom could however hear attorneys asking potential jurors about news coverage of the murder, and how their existing knowledge of the case could influence their perspective. By Monday’s lunch break, 19 had been interviewed.
The selection process is expected to last several days. The trial is currently scheduled for February.
