A former Kansas City police officer resigned from his position after pleading guilty to harassment of two citizens and a misdemeanor assault in an incident from 2023, according to a Jackson County news release.
Jason Q. Moran was sentenced to one year of probation, resigned from his post and surrendered his police certification, according to prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.
An officer was flagged down on Dec. 5, 2023, by three people who said a black truck had been following them. According to the release, they drove around the truck when it didn’t move after a stop light turned green.
They said the truck then followed them, that Moran pointed a gun at them and struck one of them with his pickup.
Moran was not on duty or in uniform at the time of the incident. He told police, according to the release, that he was driving on State Line Road and followed a vehicle that passed him into an apartment complex. He said the people in the vehicle approached his truck so he drove away but then returned.
According to the release, Moran said he drew his firearm and pointed it at the citizens after one of them struck his window.
Responding officers observed Moran to be intoxicated. Two of the victims said Moran pointed the gun at them and used the “n” word during a verbal confrontation and hit one of them with his truck. Video cameras in the area captured the defendant’s vehicle striking the victim, the release said.
