KFC opens 1,000th store in Guangzhou, China

Yum China Holdings has marked a significant milestone with the opening of the 1,000th KFC store in the province of Guangzhou, China.

The milestone underscores the brand’s robust expansion in the Chinese market since its entry in 1987.

Alongside this landmark store, the 100th KCOFFEE café in Guangdong province was also unveiled, demonstrating the popularity of the combined business model.

The new KFC store and KCOFFEE cafe highlight Yum China Holdings’ commitment to growth and innovation within the foodservice sector,

Yum China’s strategy has seen the KCOFFEE model expand to more than 500 locations nationwide, with plans to reach 600 by the end of 2024.

The introduction of the KFC brand to China began in Beijing’s Qianmen neighbourhood and the brand now has 11,000 stores across the country.

The expansion in Guangdong province has been particularly notable, with the region serving as a testing ground for new products and business models.

Innovations such as automated food trucks and breakfast kiosks in subway stations have been piloted there.

In October 2024, KPRO, KFC’s new concept store offering healthy and nutritionally balanced meal options, opened in Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

KFC China general manager Warton Wang expressed the company’s dedication to quality and customer service, stating, “As we continue our growth story in China, KFC will continue to uphold our commitment to serve delicious, high-quality food; provide outstanding customer experience; and care for our customers.

“Operational efficiency and innovation are dual focus points for us to effectively capture market opportunities and promote sustainable growth. KFC’s story in China is still being written and the future will be even more exciting.”
