Late Enquirer journalist Pat Crowley may be honored with road naming in Northern Kentucky

Some Kentucky residents are proposing a new name for a roadway in Campbell County: the Patrick J. Crowley Memorial Parkway.

Crowley, a longtime Enquirer journalist turned public relations professional, was a well known personality throughout the state.

He died unexpectedly at his home in Fort Thomas on Dec. 28.

Southgate city council members unanimously approved a resolution recently in support of honorary designation.

Mayor Jim Hamberg told The Enquirer Crowley was instrumental in forging relationships between local leaders, businesses, and state lawmakers. That was in part because Crowley knew so many people and was so well respected in Northern Kentucky and the rest of the Greater Cincinnati area.

“Pat always tried to find a way … to find common ground and bring us together,” Hamberg said.

Fort Thomas also approved a similar resolution recently, according to the city website.

The name change would apply to U.S. Route 27, commonly known as Monmouth Street and Alexandria Pike, in Campbell County where Crowley lived. It would extend from Fifth Street in Newport to Highland Avenue in Fort Thomas.

Crowley covered eight General Assembly sessions and six Kentucky Governors as a journalist. In 2009, he turned his career toward marketing, public relations, and public affairs.

The resolution also highlighted Crowley’s commitment to rescue animals, his volunteerism, his time as a youth athletic coach, and his civic involvement.

State Sen. Shelley Funke Frommeyer, R-Alexandria, and state representatives Matt Lehman, D-Newport, and Mike Clines, R-Alexandria stood alongside Crowley’s wife Pam and their family at the General Assembly Wednesday as the resolution was presented.
