Legendary Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar dies

Legendary Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar, who ruled the Indian film industry for a long time, passed away at age of 92. According to the media, Lata Mangeshkar passed away at around 8 pm today IST. Lata’s last rites will be performed at 6:30 pm IST this evening in Shivaji Park as per the Indian media. Mortal remains of her have been taken to ‘Prabhukunj’, her Peddar Road residence. Indian media has reported that people will visit the body of the legendary singer in Mumbai’s Shivaji Park this evening, pay homage to her and attend her last rites. She was undergoing treatment at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital since contracting the coronavirus last month.

Mangeshkar was admitted to the hospital on January 8 on a diagnosis of coronavirus and pneumonia, where she was shifted to a ventilator after her condition deteriorated. On January 26, her condition improved and she was removed from the ventilator, after which she was in the ICU. When her condition worsened again yesterday, she was transferred to the ventilator again. Dr. Preet Samdani, an associate professor at Breach Candy Hospital, has been caring for Mangeshkar for many years. According to Indian media, several limbs of her had stopped working.
