I felt very sad about the gentleman who died crossing the street near the Wyomissing post office (“Pedestrian fatally struck near post office,” Reading Eagle, Jan. 4).
Then I felt angry that the post office is located in an area that is not conducive to being used by pedestrians. I live in Exeter Township, but my husband visits that post office several times a week for a post office box of an organization of which he is a member. If I am with him when he parks along Penn Avenue across from the post office, I fear for his life since the traffic zooms through there at high speed. It is scary. And the road in back of the post office also has traffic turning off of Penn Avenue at high speeds.
Is this any way for a building that provides a service to the public to be located? It should be moved. Or at least there should be a large speed bump placed on the road.
How many deaths or accidents does it take to address this perpetual problem?
