Residents of Jackson Township and Canton live in the Ohio 49th House District, and we have a chance to change the way business has been conducted by politicians in Columbus. Our representative is first-term house member Jim Thomas, who has consistently voted in opposition to the interests of his district.
He has voted for very restrictive bans on women’s reproductive choice in Ohio, opposing the amendment to restore abortion rights and even supporting the attempt to raise the threshold to pass such amendments last year. Instead of trying to keep utility costs down, he has opposed efforts to support new green energy and instead voted to allow oil drilling in our state parks and wildlife refuges. He has done nothing to repeal the scandalous nuclear power plant scheme that we are all still paying for on our heating and light bills.
Thomas has not supported efforts to reduce gun violence or end gerrymandering, but instead focuses on culture war issues, never failing to vote for every anti-gay bill that crosses his desk. He has held zero town hall meetings so constituents can discuss any of these issues in a public manner.
Consider a vote for Krista Allison, a Jackson Township resident who is bright, energetic, and very involved in our community through education and public safety programs. Let’s shake up the super majority in Columbus and bring in a woman who will represent the broader interests across our communities.
