There are nationwide protests in France against a deeply unpopular bill to raise the pension age. Train services were disrupted and some schools shut while garbage piled up on the streets of France on Thursday as part of a ninth nationwide day of strikes. These changes would increase the retirement age from 62 to 64 and have been met with strong resistance. The protests led to the arrest of more than 450 individuals. According to union leaders, the number of demonstrators exceeded three million, indicating a widespread discontent with the controversial legislation. The law was passed in parliament last week without a vote, intensifying the public’s frustration and prompting them to take to the streets in large numbers.
