Guardians drop injured P Alex Cobb from postseason roster
It’s not relevant to Game 2, but the Guardians have dropped starting pitcher Alex Cobb from their postseason roster because of a back strain. He’ll be replaced by Ben Lively, who posted a 13-10 record in the regular season with a 3.81 ERA and 1.245 WHIP in 29 starts.
Cobb, 37, was limited by injury to three appearances in the regular season. He made two postseason starts, but lasted just 2 2/3 innings in Monday’s Game 1 loss to the Yankees before leaving the game with hip tightness and a back spasm. Now his season is done.
Gerrit Cole to start for Yankees
Six-time All-Star and reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole will start for the Yankees. Cole posted a 3.41 ERA and 1.126 WHIP with 99 strikeouts in 95 innings of a regular season that was limited by injury.
