Louisville residents will have to deal with winter weather a few days longer as forecasters with the National Weather Service predict the city may get up to 6 inches of snow Friday, just days after another historic winter weather event shut down businesses and schools across the commonwealth.
The snow and ice has burdened many local institutions, including Jefferson County Public Schools, which cancelled school for a fifth consecutive day Friday, and the Transit Authority of River City, which is running on reduced service through Sunday.
The Louisville Metro Snow Team has worked 24 hours each day since Sunday and continues to do so, Mayor Craig Greenberg said Thursday. Workers spent much of the day replenishing road salt supplies at the city’s four salt domes in preparation for the upcoming snow.

The Snow Team has additional help Friday after the city enlisted an emergency contractor to help treat and plow main multi-lane roads, Greenberg said.

Cold temperatures are expected throughout the day, with the high reaching around 29 degrees.
The snow is expected to create some travel impacts, as roads — especially bridges and overpasses — could be slick. The National Weather Service advised people to avoid travel if possible, but to drive with extreme caution if travel is necessary.
