Liverpool could be about to trigger a transfer clause from the deal that saw Alexis Mac Allister arrive at Anfield.

The World Cup winner has been pivotal to Jurgen Klopp’s side challenging for a possible treble in his debut season with the Reds. Mac Allister has made 37 appearances across all competitions and his influence on the team is arguably growing as Liverpool navigate the final run-in.

The 25-year-old was signed last summer after Liverpool met his £45m release clause, contributing to Brighton earning a Premier League-record £122.8m profit in their 2022/23 set of accounts. Having sold a trio of stars in this period – Mac Allister, Marc Cucurella and Yves Bissouma – the financial documents also show that the Seagulls could earn an additional £40m in add-ons, including clauses in Mac Allister’s contract as Liverpool continue to fight for major honours.

“If you take a look at the small print of Brighton’s accounts, it says that they could earn up to £40million from add-ons,” finance expert Kieran Maguire told Football Insider. “I believe the add-ons attached to the Alexis McAllister deal to Liverpool are in the region of £20million.

“Therefore, if it comes to the last day of the season, expect to see lots of Brighton fans singing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and wanting Liverpool to win the Premier League. And now that Brighton aren’t in the Europa League – they will want Liverpool to win that as well because that will mean further money coming to the club.“

While the exact nature of the clauses are unknown, Brighton would likely receive a windfall if Liverpool do lift the Premier League trophy. Winning the three-way title battle would provide a fitting farewell for Jurgen Klopp ahead of a possible Europa League final in Dublin.
