Local nonprofits get a boost from Wombat Solar grants – emerency services was a focus

Wombat Solar awarded grants to 11 organizations in Crawford County, supporting various community needs.

Emergency services were a significant focus, with the Crawford County Special Response Team receiving funds for a Level 3 Ballistic Shield. Wynford Local Schools received funding for window film installation to enhance security and privacy at the front doors and main office. Grants also were awarded to Life First Ambulance District and Jefferson Township Fire Department.

Food insecurity was another major issue addressed. New Day Ministries Outreach Center and Food Pantry plans to purchase a new freezer to expand its capacity for providing frozen groceries and increasing bi-weekly meat supplies.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Wombat Solar for their partnership and unwavering support in our mission to combat hunger and uplift our community,” Kaden Thomas, pantry director at New Day Ministries, said in a press release. “Together, we are making a meaningful impact in the lives of those we serve.”

Bucyrus Outreach & Restoration Network and The Freedom Fellowship Food Pantry received grants to continue their efforts.

Several special interest projects were supported, including Preserving Galion, which is fundraising to replace the roof of the historic Gill House. No One Fights Alone is assembling gift bags for cancer patients, while Sonic Spotlight Productions’ youth band will purchase new guitars. The Crawford Arts Council received funding for security measures, accessible seating and lighting improvements.

Wombat Solar accepting grant applications

The Wombat Solar Community Grant Program aims to empower nonprofits and enhance community well-being. Each quarter, the program selects deserving organizations and provides them with financial assistance to support their operations and initiatives.

“This quarter, we were overwhelmed by the number of impactful applications we received and are honored to support a record number of organizations working to improve Crawford County,” Leah Cordy, director of community relations at Wombat Solar, said in the press release. “While we’re excited to contribute to these important initiatives, the volume of applications emphasizes the persistent challenges within our community. There is still significant work ahead, and we are dedicated to continuing our support.”

Applications for the first quarter of 2025 are open. Nonprofits and charitable organizations operating in Crawford County are encouraged to apply.

Applicants can apply for up to $5,000, which can be used for a specific project or operating expenses. The application closes March 15.
