Louis Rees-Zammit turns heads as standout moment gets people talking

Louis Rees-Zammit has turned heads in Kansas City Chiefs training with a superb catch.

The Welshman received praise for this catch on the Chiefs’ official website, under their ‘Five Observations from Tuesday’s Practice | Chiefs Training Camp’ article published this week.

Writing about the 23-year-old, it said: “Running back Louis Rees-Zammit turned in a noteworthy play, too, when quarterback Chris Oladokun lofted a throw deep down the sideline and into the arms of the former rugby star. It was a great catch by Rees-Zammit, who continues to improve as a pass-catcher out of the backfield.”

Rees-Zammit can be seen catching a pass from quarterback Chris Oladokun as the crowd cheers. A frustrated Curtis Jacobs smacked the Welshman on the back as he used his pace to peel away from him.

You can watch a clip of the catch below.

Chiefs fans were excited in the replies section.

“Hope he makes the team. Exciting player destined for greatness in NFL,” said one.

“He seems to be getting better every day,” said another.

“This is the best clip I’ve seen yet,” said one.

“Put him at wide receiver. He’s not making the team as a running back but it’s still worth it trying to put him in space and he can catch,” said another.

Oladokun, who threw the catch to the Welshman, is good friends with Rees-Zammit. The pair shared a living space when the former Gloucester winger first moved over, with Oladokun commenting: “I told my mom (Jennifer Carter) when I left Texas that I learned more about Louis in those two weeks than I probably know about my own brother (Jordan) — and me and my brother are super close.

“I think (Rees-Zammit) has a really good personality, and I think he’s going to fit really well into the culture here. He’s been a professional athlete since he was 16. He’s going to be a great addition.”

Rees-Zammit is in line to make his second appearance in the NFL, when they take on Detroit Lions this weekend in his first home game.

There is one more pre-season match after that against Chicago Bears before the squad is cut and the regular season starts. The expectation is that Rees-Zammit will make the 17-man practice squad and become available if there are any injuries for Chiefs, or any other club in the NFL for that matter.
