Louisville weather | Gusty winds, ‘Spring-like’ conditions to be followed by cooler temperatures

Hold on to your hats, it will be breezy for most of Sunday.

A wind advisory is in place for the Louisville metro area, as well as most of Kentucky, until 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Louisville.

“A strong low pressure system will bring gusty and west winds to our region today,” the weather service said in a Facebook post. “Peak gusts may occasionally reach into the 40-55 mph range.”

The weather serviced advised residents to secure loose outdoor items, including holiday decorations, and to note that small tree limbs and weak trees could fall.

There were some reports of power outages scattered throughout Jefferson County as of 2 p.m., most of which were in northeast Louisville. LG&E estimated 1,190 customers in Jefferson County were without power.

The advisory comes after Louisville received moderate-to-heavy rainfall at times Friday and Saturday. The weather service stated the weather pattern was “Spring-like,” with highs in the 60s.

Though the strong winds are expected to die down Monday, high temperatures are expected to be in the 50s Monday and Tuesday, followed by a cooler cycle the rest of the week. Kentucky and much of the eastern half of the U.S. is forecast to have below average temperatures at the beginning of January, according to the Climate Prediction Center.
