Lubbock earns second Digital Media Friendly Texas Certified Community in state

Lubbock has been certified by the Texas Film Commission as a second Digital Media Friendly Texas Certified Community.

According to Gov. Greg Abbott’s office, this achievement signals to digital media companies and professionals that the community is primed for economic development opportunities and jobs in the following areas:

  • Animation.

  • Visual effects (VFX).

  • Video games.

  • Extended reality (XR).

The governor and other local lawmakers passed along their congratulations to the city, including Texas House Speaker Dustin Borrows, R-Lubbock, stating, “Lubbock benefits from having Texas Tech University create a pipeline of creators and aspiring leaders in digital media and local partners supporting the growth of this exciting industry.”

State Rep. Carl Tepper, R-Lubbock, echoed the speaker’s sentiment in stating that Lubbock will now have a vital role in Texas’ “vibrant digital media landscape.”

Lubbock Mayor Mark McBrayer said in a statement that the certification “confirms our commitment to fostering innovation and creativity and shows everyone across the state we are a prime destination for digital media production.”

McBrayer said this certification will also open new doors for job creation, economic development, and investments in our community, which Lubbock Economic Development Alliance President and CEO John Osborne seconded.

The certification is awarded by the Texas Film Commission with Cedar Park being the only other city to have been certified.
