‘Majestic’ Bull Moose Battle It Out in Anchorage Suburb

A man in Anchorage, Alaska, captured the dramatic moment that two bull moose went head-to-head in his front yard recently.

Dale Jay Walther told Storyful that he was standing in his driveway putting winter tires on his car when he heard a loud cracking sound.

“I turned around and just 20 feet away there were two fighting bull moose advancing directly toward me with their horns lowered,” Walther said. “I ran behind the vehicle to make sure it was between.”

Once Walther was safely inside his home, he began filming the battle, capturing the moose as they locked antlers and drove one another up and down the road.

“There were scratch marks on the driveway along with tufts of moose hair and the lawn alongside the driveway was torn up from the moose battle,” Walther told Storyful. “I was impressed that once one of the moose had pinned his opponent and established his dominance that instead of injuring him he let him go.”

While being in such proximity to the brawling moose was scary, Walther told local news that he felt privileged to witness nature in action. “They’re majestic animals, they really are. It’s a privilege, I guess, that we can even share the same planet with them,” he said. Credit: Dale Jay Walther via Storyful
