‘Major accident’ involving 4 vehicles, 18-wheeler rollover on I-35 in south Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Two people were injured in what the Austin Fire Department called a “major accident” on Interstate 35 in south Austin Tuesday.

AFD said in a post on X at 12:31 p.m. there was a major traffic accident near 8700 I-35 involving an 18-wheeler. AFD also said two vehicles were on opposite sides of the interstate and one was on fire at one point.

That area is just north of Slaughter Lane.

In an update, AFD said there were four vehicles involved and two people needed medical attention. The department also said the fire was extinguished.

Austin-Travis County EMS said one person was taken to St. David’s South Austin with non-life-threatening injuries and the other was evaluated and treated on scene but refused transport.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m., the roads were back open, according to the Texas Department of Transportation incident page.
