A 24-year-old man was fatally wounded overnight Monday in a drive-by shooting on the Southwest Side, Chicago police said.

Shortly after 1 a.m., the victim was exiting a vehicle when a black SUV approached in the 2300 block of West 18th Street and someone inside opened fire in the man’s direction.

The victim suffered nine gunshot wounds to the body, and was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

He was identified as Miguel D. Villegas of the same block where he was fatally shot, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
