Man charged in Newington convenience store robbery following K-9 track, chase

A man was charged in connection with an armed robbery at a convenience store in Newington on Christmas after a K-9 tracked him to the CTfastrak busway and chased him down.

The robbery was reported shortly before 8 p.m. at Cumberland Farms, located at 724 Cedar St., according to Sgt. Matthew J. D’Esposito of the Newington Police Department.

Store employees told police that the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Dylan Martin of Bristol, was armed with a knife and had fled the store, D’Esposito said.

A K-9 tracked the suspect from the store to the CTfastrak busway, where officers spotted Martin walking along the pedestrian walkway, D’Esposito said. Martin reportedly ran from police who confronted him, leading to officers and the K-9 chasing him. He was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.

Martin was arrested on charges of second-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, interfering with an officer and failure to pay or plea. He was held on a $50,000 bond and was expected to appear in New Britain Superior Court on Thursday.
