Police are investigating a shooting late Monday night in Northeast Central Durham that left a man dead.
It happened in the area of North Hyde Park Avenue and Holloway Street, east of downtown, police said.
Officers responded to a gunshot call at 11:35 p.m. and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds, according to a news release. He was taken to a hospital by Emergency Medical Services with serious injuries and died a short time later.
Police have not released the man’s name or any other details.
As of Sept 14, 167 people had been shot in Durham, 23 of them fatally.
That compares to 140 and 178 people shot by the same date in each of the previous two years, 28 and 29 of them fatally, according to police statistics
