A man who was caught trying to smuggle £2m worth of crystal meth through Manchester Airport in his luggage has been jailed.
Graham Adam Joines, 29, was stopped by Border Force officers after arriving on a flight from Iceland on July 17 of this year. His luggage was searched and found to contain 25kg of crystal meth.
Joines had acquired the crystal meth in Mexico before stuffing them into his suitcases. He then tried to import them into the UK via Canada and Iceland, the National Crime Agency (NCA) said. An investigation found that the drugs had an estimated street value of £2m.

At Manchester Crown Court yesterday (Friday), Joines, of Woodend Road, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, was jailed for eight years. He had previously pleaded guilty to importing the Class A drug at Salford Magistrates Court on 19 July.
He was also sentenced to one year and four months, to run consecutively, for unrelated driving and drug possession offences. The drugs are now due to be destroyed, the NCA said.
