Man United legend slams Sir Jim Ratcliffe and makes ambition claim after £140m transfer spend

United legend Teddy Sheringham has slammed Sir Jim Ratcliffe claiming he doesn’t see any “ambition” coming from the co-owner when it comes to transfers.

It’s been a busy summer for United with the club overseeing moves for Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for £36.5million and Leny Yoro from Lille for £58.9million, while deals for Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt are rumoured to be imminent. However club icon Sheringham believes that the players brought in so far won’t be sufficient enough to alter United’s league fortunes.

Sheringham, who was instrumental in United’s iconic treble winning season in 1999, also claimed that Ratcliffe’s hands-on approach with United “doesn’t mean anything”. The former striker didn’t hold back as he also declared that there are no “guarantees” any of United’s new recruits will turn out to be a good fit for Erik ten Hag’s side.

Speaking to onlinepoker.ltd, Sheringham unloaded on the new United hierarchy and insisted the new regime won’t make much of a difference to the club’s chances on the pitch. “From my point of view, having a new football structure and Jim Ratcliffe involved as a minority owner doesn’t mean anything. It doesn’t even touch the sides, and it won’t have any significant impact on what happens on the grass,” he said.

“It’s just a new man putting money into the football club. Bringing in a new CEO and football executives won’t improve the players or the manager. I can’t see the new owners showing their ambition by bringing in a player that is going to have a transformative effect on the football club,”

United finally reached an agreement with Bayern Munich to sign Mazraoui and De Ligt at the weekend. The pair, who have a wealth of experience between them and are well known to Ten Hag from their Ajax days, will cost United around £51.5million, yet Sheringham doesn’t believe the new regime are showing enough purpose in the market and took aim at the acquisitions of the inexperienced Zikzee, 23, and Yoro, 18.

“The business that United have concluded so far isn’t going to shift the needle. Yoro and Zirkzee are both young guys who will need time to adapt to the demands of Premier League football. There are no guarantees that they will be good signings – you don’t know what you will get from them,” Sheringham said.

With the big names rolling through the door this summer, United continue to be linked with even more players as Ten Hag looks to strengthen the side where he can ahead of the transfer window closing in just over a fortnight’s time. However Sheringham has implored his old side to target players who can turn in big performances every week stating the club don’t need any more “inconsistencies”

“They’re going to be inconsistent. Manchester United do not need any more inconsistencies, they need proper players that are going to give you an eight, nine or ten out of ten performance every week.” he concluded.
