Man who raped, impregnated teen girl in SLO County is sentenced to prison

A Santa Maria man who raped and impregnated a 16-year-old was sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison, the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.

Juan Sanchezflores, now 44, assaulted a 16-year-old on a rural property near Lopez Lake in May 2019, according to a news release from the District Attorney’s Office.

Sanchezflorez pleaded guilty to the crime in court and was convicted of rape by means of force or violence and causing great bodily injury to a 16-year-old, the release said.

“The great bodily injury enhancement to the sentence is based on the young survivor becoming pregnant because of the crime,” the release said.

Sanchezflores was sentenced to serve 25 years to life in state prison and must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, according to the release.

“Predators are not welcome here,” District Attorney Dan Dow said in the release. “Any person who commits a violent crime such as this will be vigorously prosecuted by this office.

“My heart goes out to this survivor, and I am grateful for her courage to seek assistance from the criminal and victim justice system,” he continued. “I hope that this case serves to encourage all other survivors to report knowing that they will be heard and advocated for in San Luis Obispo County.”
