Manchester United’s dream midfield after Casemiro exit as replacement ‘lined up’

Manchester United’s dream midfield after Casemiro exit as replacement ‘lined up’

Manchester United could be about to have a rather busy summer transfer window.

United have been linked with several possible new signings this summer but no players have made a switch to Old Trafford as things stand. That could change, though if some of the latest reports are to be believed.

New centre-backs are top of United’s priority list when it comes to new signings this summer. Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, Lille’s Leny Yoro and Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt are known targets for the Reds during the transfer window.

When it comes to the midfield, though, a host of players have also been linked with a move to United. Benfica star Joao Neves has been credited in some reports as a target for the Reds, but those rumours have quietened down in recent days.

That is mainly due to speculation surrounding the future of Paris Saint-Germain star Manuel Ugarte. United have been linked with a move for the Uruguay international, who only signed for PSG from Sporting Lisbon last summer on a five-year contract in a deal reportedly worth £52 million.

It remains to be seen if United will be able to sign Ugarte this summer. If the 23-year-old was to move to Old Trafford he could help form a dream midfield for manager Erik ten Hag next season.

Ugarte plays the No.6 role for PSG and Uruguay, which is also the position currently occupied by Casmiro at United. The Brazilian has been linked with a move away from United this summer, and Ugarte’s arrival could see the club allow Casemiro to leave Old Trafford.

Ugarte could operate in a midfield three, with Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes likely to be among the first names on the teamsheet next season. Should a move for Neves happen, though, that could be another option Ten Hag has at his disposal.

There is also Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen and Mason Mount who will be competing for a midfielder spot at United next season. As a result, the arrival of Ugarte would certainly increase the options available in midfield for Ten Hag.
