Maverick joins Saybrook

Jul. 26—SAYBROOK — Maverick Environmental Equipment opened its new Saybrook location in October.

Maverick is located at 3901 N. Bend Rd.

“We originally were in Newbury, Ohio,” said Marketing Manager Laura Gregory. “It was great for us to get started, but we outgrew it very quickly. Our equipment is large and needs space to park. We needed to find a new spot that would continue to promote the growth of the company. The location is close enough to the main highway (I-90) for our heavy haul team.”

Gregory said they are a heavy equipment dealer for the aggregate and forestry industries.

They sell, rent and service equipment.

The sales, rental and parts service focuses on machinery solutions used in environmental applications including aggregate processing, waste recycling, foresting and biomass.

“We have an in-house service team, as well as mobile service units,” she said. “We also have a parts warehouse, so we can support customers for parts for their machines as well. We have the heavy haul team as well so we can obtain new machines and deliver to our customers and help them as necessary.”

Gregory said that the company has brought jobs to the area.

“Because we had more space to fill here … we did hire quite a few service technicians,” she said. “We hired a handful of people upon moving here, because we had the space and needed the extra help. We’re helping to support local businesses and are closer to our previous customers. We’re more easily accessible to our very local customers here. We do smaller rentals like skid steers and excavators. We do well locally with those smaller machines since a homeowner can use those machines, not just a business.”

Saybrook Township Trustees Chairperson Robert Brobst was a former customer and was able to introduce the company to that location, according to Gregory.

Brobst said there are a few other development projects underway in Saybrook.

Saint John School is constructing a new student center.

A groundbreaking ceremony took place on May 15.

Local entrepreneur Larry Laurello who donated to the project, said that footers were recently poured.

A new high-end Italian restaurant, Lago Enoteca, officially opened on July 5.

The new restaurant is located at 5205 Lake Rd. West.

Along with a new restaurant, there’s also a new winery that recently opened up.

The Greater Ashtabula Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for HappyLand Winery on July 11.

The new winery is located at 2920 Brown Road.

“Saybrook will be looking at a new comprehensive plan soon,” Brobst said. “Right now we are just taking care of our roads and our Fire Department.”

Ashtabula County Department of Environmental Services Director Douglas Starkey said that their water tank rehabilitation project is currently underway for three of their facilities.

“The tank on State Route 45 known to us as Saybrook Center is a part of this $1,008,027.00 project,” he said. “The project will address repairs and upgrades needed at each location including painting of the tanks.”

Starkey said they received a grant through Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) for $75,000 for their Carpenter Road Overflow Elimination project.

“This will help prevent sanitary overflows on Carpenter Road by extending the force main to manhole capable of handling the flows much better,” he said. “The total project cost is $629,795.00 and should be starting in the near future.”
